A Cozy Vinyl Bar Lands in New York’s Union Square

One more Region, a bar featuring cocktails, bites, and vinyl, is now open in New York’s Union Sq..

Owned by longtime good friends and marketplace veterans Mark Connell and Timothy Jenkins, A different Country is named after one of the pair’s beloved James Baldwin novels and marks their 1st hospitality undertaking together.

The structure of 77-seat space—overseen by Lisa Ekle of e.g. assignments with millwork by Big Bear Custom made Design—is daring however cozy, with a midcentury touch. Small ceilings established the stage for a moody palette and lower-profile lights.

Heat, inviting textures—such as cork, white oak, repurposed first pine flooring, soft upholstery, travertine countertops, and textured plaster walls—were employed to patina over time.

The bar is the centerpiece of the house, glowing inside the dim place many thanks to gold plaster ceilings, indirect lights, mirrored backsplash, and an illuminated glass-and-mirror oak shelf built to dwelling the vinyl collection.

Shifting past the bar and entrance seating spot, an added-broad corridor, which provides further seating, leads to a massive back room for situations and gatherings. The room—dubbed Private Pleasure as a nod to Prince—is wrapped in lively floral wallpaper that lends whimsy and color to the hideaway.

All of the vinyl on display and played at Yet another Place is from Jenkins’ private selection. “At Yet another State, we hope to reach your spirit,” states Jenkins. “Be it the new music, the meals, the drink, our kind personnel, or a mixture of all, we hope you are going to go away a little lifted.”
