Taka Sakaeda, Jihan Lee, and Lisa Limb—who satisfied whilst functioning together with 3-Michelin-starred chef Masayoshi &#8220Masa&#8221 Takayama and are the group behind Japanese cafe Nami Nori—have launched Postcard Bakery in Manhattan’s West Village.

Postcard Bakery draws from vintage Japanese style

Crafted by Brooklyn-based mostly Sarah Carpenter & Studio, Postcard Bakery characteristics a retro-fulfills-whimsical design and style strategy that draws from vintage Japanese postcards and 1920s Taisho-period artwork. The intimate 300-square-foot area is decadent and lively, combining pastel tones and prosperous patterns.

An outsized curved glass and mirrored metal pastry screen situation is seen from the street, while every floor in the arched company area—from the ceiling and partitions to the counters and floors—is bathed in a vivid vermillion red that stands in distinction to the smooth, warm glow of the seating space.

The seating region is characterised by quilted banquettes set against a muted palette of creamy peach and butter yellow. Golden marble flooring tiles, which are reflected in the pastry case, even further accentuate the space’s softness.

A green wallcovering, framed by custom made oak millwork, evokes the botanical and geometric influences of artist and illustrator Yumeji Takehisa.

“At the start off of the undertaking, Lisa shared a Spotify playlist that she experienced put jointly to convey the nostalgic, playful tone she wished to established for Postcard and we performed this on loop in our studio,” states Sarah Carpenter. “In past tasks, shoppers have supplied us with a wide assortment of information to support articulate their strategies, ranging from a poem to a single photograph.
