Ash Debuts Swann House at Baltimore’s Ulysses Hotel

Boutique hotelier Ash has launched Swann House, a new clubhouse and event space behind Baltimore hotel Ulysses.

With its design led by Ash creative director Xavier Donnelly, Swann House is an intimate 1,100-square-foot space that can be a bar, ballroom, or banquet hall for up to 85 guests standing or 45 seated.

Located in a historic townhouse next door to Ulysses—once the home of seven-term Mayor of Baltimore Ferdinand Claiborne Latrobe—Swann House is named after Latrobe’s wife, Louisa Sherlock Swann, and their one son, Swann, who carried on the family name.

Swann House features restored original details that pay homage to the building’s past, with an old-world feel achieved via dark wood paneling, original plaster walls, marble fireplaces, and high ceilings.

Gathered drapes made of crisp, undyed muslin frame the main dining room and jewel box bar, creating a dramatic reveal of the space’s distinct elements.

“My goal for Swann House was to create an opulent entertaining space that’s still timeless,” says Donnelly. “It feels like it’s always been here, but still attuned to the world around it—playing off the nuances of its surroundings from the architecture of the city to Ulysses next door. In other words: The perfect setting for unforgettable parties.”
