Bungalow Opens in New York’s East Village

Michelin-starred chef Vikas Khanna and Bombay House Hospitality founder and CEO Jimmy Rizvi have joined forces to launch a modern Indian restaurant, Bungalow, in New York’s East Village neighborhood.

Channeling the nostalgia of India’s country clubs

New York-based designer and Bombay House creative director Shaila Rizvi spearheaded the restaurant’s interiors.

Bungalow’s design transports guests to a world where timeless Indian traditions meet contemporary luxury. Rich jewel tones, like amber, emerald, and ruby, are paired with gentle pastel hues that adorn walls to evoke the ambiance of bungalow life in India. Every color and texture is crafted—whether in brass, glass, or wood—to emphasize sophistication and tradition.

A main dining room opens out into a backyard patio, creating a spacious indoor-outdoor dining experience.

“Bungalow is a celebration of the memories woven into the fabric of India’s sprawling country clubs,” says Rizvi. “It’s a culinary journey that delves into my childhood, where we lived for the liminal moments and unforgettable, distinct regional flavors. The name of the restaurant references the single-storied houses built with European influences, which later became hotbeds of retro revelry and social gatherings among Indian aristocrats—birthing a sub-cuisine of their own.”
