Century Furniture bringing a taste of Europe to High Point with new licensed collection

HICKORY, N.C. — Antique lovers and European design aficionados will have a new collection to peruse and source at High Point Market in October, one that comes with a tried-and-true design pedigree.

Century Furniture is partnering with antiques purveyor and interior designer Tara Shaw on a new 70-piece collection, offering buyers a full range of furniture pieces based on pieces curated for Shaw’s showroom in New Orleans. The Tara Shaw Collection will include dining, bedroom and occasional furniture inspired by antique and mid-century French, Italian, Swedish and Belgian designs, many paying homage to detailed carvings and patinas, as well as contemporary finishes in marble, bronze and iron.

“We are very excited about the Tara Shaw Collection,” said Comer Shuford Wear, vice president of marketing for Century. “She brings to Century a fresh eye for what a curated home can be and seamlessly blends the old with the new, mixing materials, objects and styles into rooms to create homes that evoke a sense of place. Her passion for home and collecting is contagious and inspires viewers the world over through her inventive use of video and social media. Tara’s engaging personality and knowledge make design approachable to easily achieve a current, unique home.”

Shaw is a 30-year “guerilla antiquer” in France, Italy, Sweden and Belgium. She also is a respected supplier of European antiques and mid-century for a host of AD100, Veranda, Elle Decor A-listers, among others. Author of Soul of the Home, Shaw is working on her second book for Abrams.

“What makes my collection for Century a standout is the quality of craftsmanship and complexity of the designs,” said Shaw. “As an interior designer and purveyor of European antiques, mid-century and contemporary furnishings, I am always looking for ‘hero’ pieces that create a well-collected home. With Century I was able to ensure our collection had many of those.”

Century Furniture, based in Hickory, NC, is a third-generation, family-owned company. The full Tara Shaw Collection will debut at the High Point Market, Oct. 26-30.
