Chinese Rosewood Dominates the Design of Bafenbao Restaurant

Bafenbao restaurant in Jiangsu, China underwent a redesign led by Yifei Wang and Kaiwen Wei of Kai Fei Design. The new concept draws inspiration from the elegance of Chinese rosewood, which is indigenous to the country’s southern and eastern coasts.

Upon entering the lobby on the first floor, guests are greeted by a bespoke reception desk reminiscent of woven baskets traditionally used in Southeast China. Bedecked with glossy brass and rosewood-toned wood panels, the reception area exudes a rich ambiance, blending elements of traditional aesthetics with crisp, contemporary lines.

Inside the main dining room, opulent rosewood panels are married with sleek, modern furnishings while vibrant orange leather chairs add a pop of youthfulness.

Meanwhile, the VIP dining rooms are awash in a blend of gold and red, with intricate detailing that pays homage to Chinese craftsmanship and heritage.

“Our favorite moment is the open dining area, accessible through the traditional Chinese sliding panels,” says Wang. “We integrated curvature and ambient lighting into the architectural framework, harmoniously merging with classical Chinese elements, such as rosewood wall panels, adorned with modern furniture and finishes. Through this fusion of eastern and western design methods, we articulate the vibrancy of modern Chinese style, delivering an unparalleled dining experience to guests.”
