Hennen Furniture founder, Bob Hennen, dies at 89

SAUK RAPIDS, Minn. — Longtime furniture retailer Robert “Bob” Hennen died June 27 at Quiet Oaks Hospice House on June 17. He was 89.

Hennen was born June 4, 1935, in St. Cloud, Minn., to Dominic and Mayme Hennen. After graduating from college, he served two years in the Army Reserves. In 1958, he married Mary Jane Sowada, and the couple had four children.

Hennen founded Hennen Furniture in 1967 with a small store in St. Cloud. The business has grown to three locations in St. Cloud, Willmar and Alexandria, Minn., over the past 57 years and has some 170 employees.

Preceded in death by his parents, Hennen is survived by his wife, four children, a brother, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Thursday, June 27, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, as well as one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Anna Marie’s Alliance, Quiet Oaks Hospice House or Poor Clares Monastery.
