Klarna and PubMatic partner to boost advertiser access to audiences

PubMatic  and Klarna have teamed up to make it easier for advertisers to reach Klarna’s large audience of 150 million shoppers. The partnership will allow Klarna, an AI-powered global payments network and shopping assistant, to scale access to its native advertising inventory via PubMatic’s Convert.

Klarna, with a community of 37 million U.S. consumers and more than 550,000 retailer partners, offers various advertising solutions to help advertisers connect with shoppers throughout their buying journey. Through PubMatic, advertisers can tap into Klarna’s high-intent audiences using their preferred demand-side platform (DSP), whether self-serve or managed.

This integration will initially focus on the U.S. market, with plans to expand to Europe in the works. Klarna says its advertising solutions have shown impressive results, reporting its click-through rates three times higher than the industry average.

“Our aim is to offer consumers a relevant, personalized and smooth shopping experience, while being a growth partner to retailers,” said David Sandstrom, chief marketing officer at Klarna. “By partnering with PubMatic, we are excited to leverage the power of programmatic advertising to connect brands with the world’s most engaged shoppers at scale and create efficiencies in their media buys.”

Hashim Mian, vice president of commerce media at PubMatic, noted that “buyers now have the opportunity to engage active shoppers, particularly valuable Millennial and Gen Z audiences, directly at the coveted point of purchase. We look forward to growing our partnership with Klarna and creating meaningful connections between advertisers and consumers.”

PubMatic recently expanded its commerce media services, introducing its Convert platform in mid-2023. With commerce media expected to become a $158 billion market globally this year and expected to grow to $220 billion by 2027 according to Magna Global, PubMatic is investing in various aspects of commerce media technology. This includes improving sponsored listings, on-site display and video ads, and extending audience reach beyond the site.
