Partnership results in new Magic Garden rug collection

Artist Thilde Maria Haukohl

STOCKHOLM – Swedish interior design brand Layered has partnered with Poppykalas, the creative endeavor of Danish floral artist Thilde Maria Haukohl to launch its second collection called Magic Garden.

Following the success of the award-winning Secret Garden collection launched in 2019, this new collection is inspired by the beauty of a garden in full bloom, according to the artist.

“From the harmonious blend of hues to the intricate textures reminiscent of flower petals, each piece is a celebration of nature’s beauty,” said Haukohl. “Before our last collaboration, I had never imagined my floral creations could translate into rugs. However, as we embarked on this journey together, it became increasingly clearer how seamlessly the floral creations would be captured in vibrant floor coverings.”

For this year’s collection, Poppykalas drew inspiration from the cyclical nature of the garden, mirroring the changing of the seasons through its vibrant color palette. From the pastel tones to the more lush, warm colors, each rug is designed to tell a story about transformation and renewal.

Thilde said the Magical Garden collection consists of two unique designs, each offering a different interpretation of the theme. The Magical Garden rug is inspired by a peaceful garden with earthy tones accented by hints of pale pink, peach and orange.

The Magic Garden rug

The Sleeping Flower rug is inspired by peonies, lilacs, fragrant sweet peas and spring cherry blossoms. This design includes touches of blue, which represents the sky. The rug also has rich green hues and delicate accents of dark red and light pink. “The rug pays homage to dormant flowers awaiting their moment to bloom, according to Haukohl.

“I am inspired by nature, always,” she added. “The flowers are my muses. Their vivid colors, delicate textures and otherworldly presence always amazes me. The abundance of nature reminds me of my connection to something greater, and it is that essence that I sought to capture in the collection.”
