The Store Hotel Revives the Spirit of Boswells in Oxford

Luxury lifestyle hotel the Store has opened in Oxford, England within the former home of iconic department store, Boswells.

Transforming the historic Boswells of Oxford

Once one of the world’s oldest department stores, Boswells was a beloved, family-owned community staple. The new hotel brings Boswells’ storied past back to life throughout its 101 guestrooms, a restaurant, rooftop bar, coworking bar, and spa.

Designed by Urban R, interiors recall in the rich tapestry of Oxford with bespoke patterns and furniture that mirror the tiles of the area’s rooftops, while the design follows the line of the city’s spires to offer uninterrupted views.

The Store’s guestrooms

Arranged over seven floors, guestrooms are spread across two interconnected buildings, with six distinct design typologies. Some feature plush velvet headboards, paneled walls, and bold art deco features, while others are define by leafy courtyard views, a muted palette, and textures that comfort and cocoon.

Public spaces nod to Boswells

Drawing inspiration from the building’s history, versatile, open-plan public spaces are divided into different areas, while juxtaposed with intimate corners.

A signature scent, created in partnership with fragrance label ScentAir, even recalls the fragrance of the Boswells lobby, which was home to heavy leather-bound trunks, travel luggage, and cosmetics.
