Virgin Hotels Readies To Open Its First London Property

Virgin Hotels, the luxury lifestyle brand founded by Sir Richard Branson, is gearing up to launch its first London property.

The 120-room hotel will stand as a striking building in the city’s Shoreditch neighborhood.

Renovations will begin in August to transform the Mondrian London Shoreditch into a Virgin property featuring chef Dani Garcia’s Spanish restaurant BiBo, along with a rooftop bar, pool, private members club, gym, and treatment rooms.

A return to Virgin Group’s roots

Virgin Hotels London-Shoreditch will mark the eighth Virgin Hotels location, bringing the brand back to its birthplace where Branson founded the Virgin Group in 1970.

It will also be the 17th property in the wider Virgin Hotels Collection (which includes Virgin Limited Edition), following the launch of Virgin Hotels Edinburgh and Virgin Hotels New York in 2023, and the addition of Finch Hattons Luxury Safari Camp to the Virgin Limited Edition portfolio in July.

Virgin Hotels London-Shoreditch will form part of a long-term agreement between Virgin Hotels and real estate firm Reuben Brothers.

“We are thankful to Reuben Brothers for entrusting us to bring the Virgin Hotels brand to life in this incredible building and to bring a splash of red to Shoreditch by showcasing our innovative, heartfelt, and personal hotel experience, led by our wonderful people, to our future London guests,” says James Bermingham, CEO of Virgin Hotels Collection.

“We’re all absolutely delighted that Virgin Hotels Collection will be opening a Virgin hotel in London,” adds Branson. “Since the inception of Virgin Hotels, we’ve had our sights set on London, a place that so many of our customers either call home, or name as one of their favorite destinations—and of course where Virgin’s story started.”
