AFW eyes Memorial Day Weekend for new store’s opening

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Top 100 retailer American Furniture Warehouse’s newest store and first in the Tucson market is scheduled to soft open May 24, in time for Memorial Day Weekend.

The store, located at 6595 Marana Center Blvd. in Tucson, features 122,000 square feet of showroom space with another 115,000 square feet of warehouse.

American Furniture Warehouse founder and CEO Jake Jabs told Furniture Today that many in the Tucson market already know the brand, and he believes the store will be one of his better performers.

“A lot of people from Colorado go to Tucson so we have a customer base there. Tucson is growing and Marana is really growing; more than 300 new homes every month are being built,” Jabs said. “We think it will be one of our better stores. I think the market is ready for us; that whole area around Tucson is growing. I think the whole area is under-stored.”

To commemorate the occasion, a celebration titled “Backyard BBQ” is planned for Saturday, June 8. Free to all, attendees can look forward to games, food and giveaways. One of the highlights of the grand opening is the store’s pledge to support the local community by donating a portion of the sales on June 8 to the Marana Food Bank.

“That’s one of our attributes; we believe in giving back,” Jabs said. “We’re going to give a percentage of our sales to the Marana Food Bank, and we’re going to do a lot of other charities. I think that’s part of what businesses need to do today.”

And with this store in place, Jabs said he’s got his eyes on another hotspot in the greater Phoenix market and anticipates it will open some time next year.

“We’re going to open another store in Arizona in Surprise. Where there are new homes, people are going to need furniture,” Jabs said. “There’s good growth in the Surprise area. I think it’s going to be another homerun.”
