Former Bernhardt sales rep, Steve King, dies at 77

KATY, Texas — Steven Vance King, a former Bernhardt sales representative, passed away on Friday, May 3, surrounded by his family. He was 77.

He was born on July 7, 1946, in Buncombe County, North Carolina, to Roy Vance and Mary June McIntosh King. After graduating from East Yancy High School in 1964, King attended East Tennessee State University and Appalachian State University. Also, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1970, stationed in Japan and Nebraska.

On March 5, 1967, King married Helen Young, in Burnsville, N.C., and the couple had two children. From 1972 until 2000, he worked as a manufacturer’s sales rep for Bernhardt, never missing a High Point Market.

King is survived by his wife, two children, three grandsons, a sister, and other relatives and family.

A celebration of King’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, at Schmidt Funeral Home Grand Parkway Chapel, 1344 W Grand Parkway South, Katy, Texas. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org in honor of King’s military service and commitment to supporting his fellow servicemen and women.
