The brief for Notorious, a 12,000-square-foot rooftop renovation in Jalandhar, posed a unique challenge for Studio Dashline. The Bangalore- and Haryana, India-based firm was tasked with uniting the tropical botanical setup for the three outdoor cabanas with an indoor cocktail lounge.

The designers infused the spaces with an Art Deco theme, marrying greenery with moody elements. The juxtaposition is apparent immediately, as the cabana area takes inspiration from greenhouses with pastel hues and granite tables.

The private dining space and outdoor bar, meanwhile, feature vaulted arches and brass shelving details to help break up the spatial flow of the three cabanas. On the other side, guests move indoors through a discrete door to find themselves in an alluring 1920s-esque speakeasy.

Both sides, however, incorporate metal and natural stone to tell a more cohesive design story. “We delighted in pushing the boundaries to create a symphony of textures and visual contrasts,” says Dheeraj Bajaj, founder and principal architect of Studio Dashline.
